Activities at Oldonyo Orok Camp
Explore the activities that bring Oldonyo Orok Camp to life — scenic hikes, nature walks, biking adventures, animal feeding, and hands-on experiences in the heart of the landscape.
Hiking up Oldonyo Orok Mountain
Rising right next to the camp, Oldonyo Orok Mountain offers one of the most breathtaking experiences in the area. The guided hike to the lush oasis near the summit takes approximately 2–4 hours, depending on pace and fitness level, and rewards you with panoramic views across Kenya and Tanzania.
We prepare a packed lunch for you to enjoy on the mountain, making the experience both comfortable and memorable.
All hikes are arranged with experienced local guides who live in the area and ensure a safe and enriching journey.
Please note that a mandatory community and forest conservation fee applies per person for the hike, in addition to the fee for the local guide.
Biking Tours
Explore the surrounding landscapes of Oldonyo Orok Camp by bike and experience the area at your own pace. We offer bicycles for 500 KSH per day, and you are also welcome to bring your own.
Right outside the camp, you’ll find scenic routes through neighboring villages with smooth, passable roads ideal for relaxed countryside rides. For longer stretches, you can cycle along the Athi-Namanga Highway, featuring tarmac roads and, on clear days, occasional views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
Whether you prefer peaceful village roads or open highway views, biking here offers a beautiful and active way to discover the region.
Animal Sanctuary Feedings
Before Oldonyo Orok Camp became a lodge, it began as something much simpler — an animal sanctuary.
We started by caring for a few sick and injured animals, nursing them back to health with patience and dedication. Word slowly spread through the village, and soon people began bringing animals from nearby areas that needed help. What began as a small act of care grew into a trusted refuge for wildlife in need.
Over time, many of the animals became tame and continued roaming freely around us, creating a rare opportunity for guests to experience wildlife up close in a natural and respectful setting.
This is how Oldonyo Orok Camp evolved into a wildlife lodge — built on care, coexistence, and connection.
Today, guests can occasionally join selected feeding times, offering a meaningful glimpse into the heart of our story.
Safari Game Drives
For guests wishing to experience a classic safari, we can arrange game drives to Amboseli National Park, famous for its elephants, lions, and views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
We collaborate with trusted local tour operators who provide professional safari vehicles and guides. Early morning departures are recommended, as wildlife is most active at sunrise.
Please select Amboseli Game Drive as an Add-on when you are booking your accommodation with us, so we can make the necessary arrangements.
